Important Announcement

We would like to thank our loyal fellow members of the Nike Historical Society for your continued support over the years. We will be closing the Society, including the store, as of March 31, 2024. We have acquired a large repository of Nike technical information. The web site will continue to be available. It has been our pleasure to keep the legacy of the Nike missile's contribution of the successful conclusion to the Cold War.

Remarks: Great site! Bless you. If I could change one thing about my life, it would be to remain in the 5th USAAG until the very last detatchment was de-activated. It was a great job. Sadly, I decided to ETS after helping to close both C/66th USAAD in Datteln and Bravo team in Holzwickede, and spending a few months at D/52nd in Oedingen. I'd love to hear from anyone else stationed with the 5th USAAG during the early/mid '80s. Webmaster's Note: Carl served in Datteln, Germany with C team 66th USAAD with MOS of 24U and rank of SP4 form Mar '83 to Aug '84; and in Holzwickede, Germany with B team, 66th USAAD with MOS of 24U and rank of SP4 from Aug '84 to Aug '85; and in Oedingen, Germany with D team, 52nd USAAD with MOS of 24U and rank of SP4 from Aug '85 to Apr '86.

Remarks: To All, Thanks for the great site! I've recently talked with a small town in Illinois which had a nike radar base in about 1957 within a 100 miles of Chicago. The town would like to recreate the radar as a tourist attraction. I would like to put the project together for them. Can you help me find photos of the kind of radar used to build a replica for the town? Thanks for your help. Mark Swanson - growth@deskmedia.com.

Remarks: I am starting a historic preservation thesis on short- and long-term preservation and maintenance plans for Nike installations. I have looked all over the web and have most of everything. Any other information that people can provide would be helpful (especially those that address construction data on the missile silos and any hazardous materials that may have been used.) People are trying to preserve C-47 in Portage County, IN, I would like to help them and other groups that want to save these important historic resources. --Ball State University--
